Upcoming Toll Hikes on NLEX and SLEX: TRB Reviews Operator Requests for Approval

Motorists traversing the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) may soon face an additional toll hike, as operators are seeking approval from the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) for an increase.

TRB executive director Alvin Carullo said the toll hike could potentially take effect next month as NLEX Corp.’s application for an increase for the second phase is currently in an advanced stage of review by the agency.

Carullo said the toll increase was divided in two equal parts, with 50 percent implemented in 2023 and the remaining 50 percent in 2024.

Last June, the TRB authorized NLEX to implement an additional toll increase of P7 in the open system and P0.36 per kilometer in the closed system.

The new rates were part of the periodic adjustments authorized for NLEX in 2012, 2014, 2018, and 2020.

Carullo also said that San Miguel Corp. has applied to raise tolls on SLEX. But the timing of any increase might be affected by inflation, he added.
