Boracay has spent decades selling beaches, resorts, and nightlife, and the opening of KABAN Boracay adds a category the island has never had to answer for: regulated casino gaming.

For nearly two decades, Boracay built its economy on a narrow set of categories: rooms, food, nightlife, retail, and activities like island hopping and diving. Casino gaming was never part of that mix, not because demand was absent, but because the island’s brand rested on being a beach destination first. KABAN Boracay, which opened for guests on September 16 at Station 0 in Barangay Yapak, changes that equation. It is the first hotel casino on the island, and its arrival forces every operator nearby, from beachfront resorts to nightlife venues, to work out what a new spending category does to a destination that has never had one.
Boracay’s Spending Model Before Gaming
Before KABAN Boracay, the island’s revenue logic was straightforward. Visitors paid for accommodation, ate and drank locally, spent on beach activities, and moved through a nightlife scene concentrated along White Beach. Retail added a smaller share, mostly souvenirs and resort wear. None of that required a gaming license or age verification at the door.
The 2018 rehabilitation effort reset how Boracay positioned itself, trading volume tourism for a smaller, higher spending visitor base. That shift opened room for categories the island had avoided before, and gaming is the most structural of them. It does not compete with beach access or dining. It creates a reason to visit, or stay longer, that has nothing to do with the shoreline.
KABAN Boracay Inside Station 0
KABAN Boracay sits inland at Station 0, away from the traditional beachfront strip, as part of a 23-hectare master-planned development by Golden TW Realty and Development Corp. The six-storey property has 88 rooms, from boutique units to a presidential suite, and a 2,000 square meter gaming floor licensed by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation. Table games, slot machines, and electronic gaming stations fill that floor, with entry capped at guests 21 and older.
The positioning is deliberate. Golden TW, controlled by Chinese-born, naturalized Filipino businessman Zibin Liang, is also building Boracay Central, a lifestyle mall set to open in the fourth quarter of 2026, on the same stretch of land. KABAN Boracay is not a standalone hotel with a casino attached to it. It is the anchor tenant for an inland commercial district the developer is building from scratch, betting that gaming and retail together can pull visitor traffic away from the beach corridor that has defined the island since the 1980s.
How the Launch Was Structured
KABAN Boracay opened to guests on September 16 in what the company is treating as a soft launch, ahead of a formal grand opening set for October 11. That gap gives the property close to a month to work through service and gaming floor operations before the promotional push that will draw the heaviest attention.
Seven dining outlets, a spa, an outdoor pool deck, a VIP lounge, a children’s play area, and a rooftop bar round out the property, spreading revenue across categories that do not depend on the casino floor. About 40 percent of the initial workforce comes from Aklan province, which keeps a meaningful share of the property’s payroll inside the local economy rather than importing labor from Manila.
A Different Kind of Boracay Visitor
Gaming tends to draw a visitor profile that beach tourism does not: older, less weather-dependent, and willing to spend on property rather than moving between vendors along the strip. KABAN Boracay gives the island a reason to compete for that segment for the first time, pulling from regional gaming markets in a way its existing hotels were never built to do.
For restaurants, nightlife operators, and luxury resorts near Station 0, the question is not whether to compete with a casino directly. It is whether a captive, on-property spender changes how much foot traffic reaches the beachfront strip at all. Golden TW’s decision to build Boracay Central alongside KABAN Boracay suggests the developer expects visitors to stay inland longer than the island’s current layout assumes.
KABAN Boracay is a single property, and its gaming floor is small next to established casino resorts elsewhere in the country. What it changes is the assumption that Boracay’s spending categories are fixed. For an island that spent decades selling the same five things, that assumption held more commercial weight than the gaming license itself.
