Maynilad Fined for Water Quality Issues, Public Rebate Campaigns Planned

The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System Regulatory Office has imposed penalties on Maynilad Water Services Inc., owned by Pangilinan-led Metro Pacific Investments Corp. and the Consunji family’s DMCI Holdings, over water quality issues in certain service areas.

According to MWSS chief regulator Patrick Lester Ty, samples from Caloocan City failed to meet standards for “total coliform” levels, while those from Imus City did not comply with standards for “color and residual chlorine.”

Ty attributed these incidents to deficiencies at the Caloocan pumping station and reservoir, as well as the Anabu modular treatment plant.

The MWSS RO has scheduled public information campaigns on its rebate program, with sessions set for June 25 in Caloocan City and June 26 in Imus City.

Maynilad previously faced penalties from MWSS RO, including refunds to customers in Las Piñas in 2019 and substantial rebates in 2022 and 2023 linked to operational issues at its Putatan water treatment plant.
