Northbound motorists on NLEX Marilao faced over 24 hours of heavy traffic after a trailer truck crashed into the Marilao Interchange Bridge, forcing lane closures and emergency repairs.
Massive Congestion Paralyzes NLEX Marilao Traffic
The accident, which occurred early Wednesday, left vehicles at a near standstill, with congestion worsening by 6:00 a.m. as repairs began. Two lanes under the damaged bridge were immediately closed for structural reinforcement, adding to the heavy delays.
Despite counterflow measures in some parts of the southbound lane, travel times on NLEX Marilao increased by up to two hours, with vehicles crawling at speeds of 10 to 15 km/h.
Truck Overshoots Height Limit, Causes Structural Damage
Investigations revealed that the trailer truck exceeded the 4.27-meter height clearance, striking the underside of the bridge and causing significant structural damage. The impact was so severe that the driver’s wife, who was inside the vehicle, was thrown from the cabin, though she avoided serious injury. The driver is now in police custody, facing charges for reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property.

NLEX Marilao Traffic Worsened by Lane Closures
Following the accident, concerns arose that the vertical clearance at the Marilao Interchange Bridge had been reduced due to resurfacing. However, NLEX officials clarified that the clearance remains at 4.5 meters, with resurfacing procedures ensuring old pavement is removed before new layers are applied.
Alternative Routes Recommended Amid Ongoing Repairs
With full repairs expected to take two to three weeks, NLEX officials urge motorists to plan ahead and take alternate routes to avoid delays. The goal is to reopen all lanes before Holy Week to ease congestion and restore smooth traffic flow.
Motorists are advised to stay updated on NLEX Marilao traffic conditions through official advisories and adjust travel plans accordingly.
